WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The complete Virginia Tech track & field program competed at the Wake Forest Invitational over April 17-18.
Faith Kipmaiyo Jeruto collected her first career event win in her collegiate debut, posting a 5,000m result of 16:37.549, to win her event by 25.32 seconds.
Mariana Pestana collected her first career event win in a Virignia Tech jersey, launching the hammer 64.92m (213'0") for the victory. Barbora Stejfova followed suit with a 60.85m (199'7") for a third place finish.
Madison McConico earned her first career event win in the triple jump, reaching a distance of 12.42m (40'9") for an outdoor personal-best and the No. 7 all-time performance for Virginia Tech.
Lukas Baroke dominated the hammer throw to finish as the top collegiate performer, throwing for a distance of 63.01m (206'8").
Caleb Stephens secured his third career event win in the long jump with a 7.13m (23'4.75"), reaching the 7.0m+ mark twice in his outing.
The Hokies boasted a 1-2 finish in the shot put, with Katrin Brzyszkowska capturing the event win with a throw of 16.54m (54'3.25") for her sixth career event win while Katie Seyfang followed with a 15.74m (51'7.75") result for the 1-2 punch.
In the women's 4x100m relay, Janiya Johnson, Logan Daley, Caitlyn Bobb and Micayla Collins posted the No. 9 all-time top performance of 45.53 for Virginia Tech, securing the event win. The men's 4x100m also earned the event win with a time of 39.79, a mark good for No. 10 all-time for Tech, with a team of Ali Diaby, Kahleje "KJ" Tillmon, Tomas Kersulis and Sam Herenton.
Ali Diaby captivated the arena in his 400m event win, defeating second in the field by 0.76 seconds on his way to a massive personal-best and the No. 4 all-time top performance for Virginia Tech. His 46.01 stands at No. 22 in the NCAA this season.
For a go-ahead win, Declan Rymer battled in the steeplechase, starting out in the four hole, to claim the event. The win is the first in his career in the steeplechase, and the 8:40.22 result lands Rymer No. 4 all-time for Virginia Tech and No. 26 in the NCAA this season.
Star Price posted the NCAA No. 17 mark in the 800m invite with her 2:03.40 result while Lindsey Butler cracked the NCAA top ten this season with her 4:09.88 in the 1,500m for the ten hole.
Christian Jackson earned his first career outdoor event win in the 800m with a 1:46.36, his second career win in the event combined. His result is good for No. 3 all-time for Virginia Tech and No. 6 in the NCAA this season. Nick Plant boasted a 1:46.66 for a third place finish and the No. 9 mark in the NCAA thus far in the outdoor season while Dylan DeCambre joined the duo in the all-time top performers list for Tech with his 1:47.89, a time that lands him No. 37 in the NCAA this season.
Nicholas Kipchirchir sealed the meet for the Hokies with a fifth place finish in the 5,000m invite, collecting the No. 3 all-time top 10 performance for Tech in the event and landing No. 67 in the NCAA so far this season.
