Hokies win nine events on final day of Doc Hale VT Meet

BLACKSBURG – The Virginia Tech men's and women's track and field team recorded nine events wins on the final day of the Doc Hale VT Meet on Saturday. 

Senior Sean Murphy leads the conference in the men's heptathlon accumulating a personal-best 5810 points. Murphy started the day in second with 3211 points after four events, he took over the lead from teammate Nate Paris by finishing second in the high jump (2.03m) 60m hurdles (8.30), and 1000m (2:44.32). Paris finished second overall scoring 5608 points. Both men rank within the NCAA top 20. 
 
Jumps
Victoria Gorlova won her second event of the meet jumping a season-best 43' 7" (13.28m) in the women's triple jump. Gorlova's long jump mark ranks second in the conference. On Friday, she set a school record in the long jump with a mark of 20' 8" (6.30m).
 
Freshman Chidozie Kalu finished first in the men's triple jump with a distance of 52' 1.75" (15.89m).

In the men's high jump, Aidan Clark, EJ Bell, and Brandon Burke are tied for fourth in the conference after clearing a height of 7' 0.5" (2.15m). Clark was awarded second clearing the bar on his second attempt, Bell and Burke cleared on their third finishing fourth and fifth.
 
Pole Vault
Journey Gurley led the Hokies in the women's pole vault clearing a season-best height of 13' 11" (4.24m), finishing fourth among collegiate athletes. Gurley's mark ranks first in the ACC.
 
Former Virginia Tech volunteer coach Bridget Williams set a facility record clearing 15' 9.25" (4.81m).  

Freshman Gavin Horton won his first meet in the men's pole vault (unseeded) reaching a personal-best height of 16' 2.75" (4.95m). Jack Helmich finished second at 15' 11" (4.85m).
 
Distance
Hokies dominated the men's and women's 800m and mile run finishing first in each event. Junior Star Price clocked a personal-best 800m time of 2:03.42, second fastest time in the ACC. Price's time moves her into eighth place in the nation with three weeks to go until the conference championships.
 
Christian Jackson finished first in the men's 800m with a personal-best time of 1:47.51, ranked second in the conference.
 
Senior Lindsey Butler dominated the field in the women's mile finishing nearly 60-meters ahead of her competition. Butler ran the fastest of the day stopping the clock at 4:37.82. Ava Hassebrock placed second with a time of 4:45.30.
 
In the men's mile Ethan Coleman, Nick Plant, and Declan Rymer clocked a sub-four-minute mile in section one. Among college athletes, Ethan Coleman placed first with a time of 3:59.21, followed by Plant in second (3:59.50) and Rymer third (3:59.55).
 
Sprints
Ranked second in the conference, Judson Lincoln IV won the men's 200m with a personal-best time of 20.87. Kennedy Harrison finished second with a time of 21.20.

Throws
Katie Seyfang finished third among collegiate athletes in the women's shot put with a mark of 49' 9.25 (15.17m).

The Hokies split ways for the weekend traveling to the Tyson Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark., Music City Challenge in Nashville, Tenn., and Don Kirby Elite Invitational in Albuquerque, N.M. on Feb. 9 -10.
