BOSTON, Mass. and BLACKSBURG - The Virginia Tech men's and women's track and field teams closed out the Terrier DMR Challenge with a school-record performance in the distance medley relays. The DMR quartet of Nick Plant, Judson Lincoln IV, Christian Jackson, and Ethan Coleman rank fifth in the nation with a time of 9:22.71.
Hannah Ballowe, Barbora Malikova, Star Price, and Lindsey Butler shattered the women's DMR school record with a time of 10:52.21.
Pole Vault
In Blacksburg, Chiara Sistermann moved into first in the ACC clearing a personal-best height of 14' 0" (4.27m). Journey Gurley finished fifth among collegiate athletes clearing a height of 13' 6.25" (4.12m). Kennedy Drish placed sixth at a personal-best height of 4.12m (13' 6.25"), ranked fifth in the ACC.
Tech alum Deakin Volz and Jake Spotswood finished first (5.42m) and second (5.27m) in the pole vault, respectively. Freshman Maddox Hamm finished first among collegiate athletes clearing the bar at 17' 3.5" (5.27m). Conner McClure claimed fifth overall at a height of 16' 9.5" (5.12m), followed by Jack Helmich in seventh clearing a personal-best height of 16' 3.5". (4.97m).
Jumps
Caleb Stevens and Cierra Pyles closed out day one of the Virginia Tech Challenge winning the men's and women's long jump. Stevens jumped 23' 7.5" (7.20m) on his fourth attempt to secure the win. Pyles took over the lead on her fifth attempt reaching a distance of 18' 11.25" (5.77m).
Throws
Khalil Bedoui won the men's weight throw with a season-best distance of 65' 11" (20.09m). Freshman Lukas Baroke made his debut placing third with a distance of 59' 10.5" (18.25m).
On the Track
Ethan Mills and Lila Waters clocked in first for the Hokies in both the men's and women's 1000m. Mills won the men's race with a personal-best time of 2:23.54. Freshman Lila Waters won her first career race at Tech clocking in at 2:49.60. Elizabeth Coe finished second (2:50.62), followed by Ava Hassebrock in third (2:50.65) and Avery Legault in fourth (2:52.22).
Sophomore Amir Green ran a season-best 400m time of 48.38, finishing first on his home track. Azaan Dawson placed third in the men's mile stopping the clock at 4:09.03.
Sara Leach placed second in the women's mile with a time of 4:59.34.
