Deakin Volz was named as a volunteer assistant coach for the Virginia Tech track and field programs in August 2019. Volz will serve as the Hokies’ volunteer pole vault coach.
Volz brings a Virginia Tech background to the staff, as he competed as a member of Tech’s pole vault from 2016-19 and was a part of two ACC team championships.
Volz, a native of Bloomington, Indiana, set the indoor school record in the pole vault in 2017, leaping a height of 5.66 meters (18 feet, 6.75 inches). Volz finished his career in Blacksburg as a six-time All-American and three-time ACC individual champion.
