Butler and Lopez Segura shatter facility records at High Point

BLACKSBURG – Lindsey Butler and Antonio Lopez Segura represented the Hokies distance crew in High Point, N.C. breaking the facility records in the 1500m and 5000m during their outdoor season debuts. 

The Virginia Tech distance's squad started Day One of the VertKlasse Meet with Butler winning the women's 1500m with a time of 4:18.59. Butler's time is ranked 16th in the NCAA and is the VertKlasse meet and Vert Stadium facility record. Tech claimed four of the top-five spots in the 1500m as Grace Boone crossed the line second (4:24.14), Ava Hassebrock third (4:24.87), and Hannah Ballowe fifth (4:26.62). 

Lopez Segura won the men's 5000m with a facility record time of 13:47.50, ranked 12th in the NCAA. Declan Rymer finished second clocking in a time of 14:12.05, followed by Viktor Idhammar (14:20.16), Trevor Mason (14:30.41) and Bryce Reeburgh in fifth with a time of 14:30.58. 

Junior Alec Fleming kept the winning streak going finishing first in the 3000m steeplechase with a time of 9:02.29. Will Jones placed fourth with a time of 9:21.49. 

The Hokies crossed the finish line first, second, and third in the men's 1500m with freshman Nick Plant leading the pack with a time of 3:47.94. Following closely behind, Ben Nagel placed second crossing the line at 3:48.00, and Ryan Chevalier placed third clocking in at 3:49.04. 

Florida Relays 
High jumper Aidan Clark is ranked seventh in the Nation clearing a season-best height of 7' 1.00" (2.16m) on Day One of the Florida Relays in Gainesville, Fla. Clark finished third in the high jump college invite clearing the bar on his second attempt. 

Senior Rebecca Mammel finished third in the hammer throw with a personal-best distance of 203' 7.00" (62.07m), ranked 14th in the Nation. Barbora Stejfova placed fourth with a personal-best distance of 197' 0" (60.05m). 

In the women's discus college invite, Essence Henderson finished fifth throwing 181' 8.00" (55.38m) on her fifth attempt of the day. 

Texas Relays - Day Two
Harrison Rice and Hayley Horvath compete on Day Two (Thursday) of the 95th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays in Austin, Texas in the men's and women's pole vault. Rice finished 10th clearing the bar at 16' 5.25" (5.01m). Horvath tied for 11th clearing 12' 7.50" (3.85m) on her third attempt of the day.

Virginia Tech returns to action on Saturday closing out the weekend at the Florida Relays and Texas Relays.
