Sean Murphy claims bronze on Day Two of the ACC Indoor Championships

Day Two Results Pledge Per Program Record

Louisville, Ky. ­– The Virginia Tech men's and women's track and field teams returned to the Norton Healthcare Sports and Learning Center in Louisville, Ky. for Day Two of the 2023 ACC Indoor Championships.
 
Junior Sean Murphy scored a personal-best 5,756 points in heptathlon, finishing third in the field. Murphy ended the day with a first-place finish in the men's 1000m clocking in a time of 2:41.89.
 
Jake Spotswood placed fourth in the heptathlon after gaining ground in the pole vault event clearing a height of 16' 6.75" (5.05m). At the end of seven events, Spotswood scored 5,504 points, followed by Clay Eckert in seventh with 5,221 points.
 
Advancing to the Finals
Cole Beck broke the Virginia Tech 60-meter dash indoor record clocking a time of 6.566. Beck earned a place into the finals running the third-fastest time in the prelims.
 
Judson Lincoln IV and Kennedy Harrison earned automatic qualifying spots in the men's 400-meters final finishing first in both of their heats. Lincoln IV clocked the second-fastest time of the day with a time of 46.68. Harrison is seeded fourth in the finals with a preliminary time of 47.25.
 
In the men's mile, Declan Rymer earned a spot into the finals with a time of 4:03.97. Viktor Idhammar finished first in heat three with a time of 4:05.98, earning an automatic spot into the finals.
 
Sophomore Ava Hassebrock clocked a personal-best time of 4:37.12 in the women's mile finishing first in heat three of the prelims.
 
Lindsey Butler and Hannah Ballowe are set to compete in the women's 800m finals finishing first and second in their prelims heat. Butler crossed the line first with a time of 2:05.24, Ballowe followed closely behind with a time of 2:05.41.
 
Hurdler Layla Anderson placed first in heat three of the 60m hurdles prelims with a time of 8.19 Anderson attained a spot into the finals as the number two seed.
 
The final day of the ACC Indoor Track and Field Championships begins Saturday at 11:00 a.m. with the women's triple jump. Running events are scheduled to begin at 12:00 p.m. with the final race of the women's mile.
