BLACKSBURG, Va. — Nick Plant upheld his program record in the 1,000 meters and led five Virginia Tech athletes into the NCAA all-time list as the Hokies posted multiple program records Saturday afternoon at the Doc Hale Invitational inside Rector Field House.
Plant clocked a personal-best 2:17.80 in the 1,000m, maintaining his status as Virginia Tech’s all-time leader in the event. His performance moved him to No. 5 on the NCAA all-time list, and he finished as the top collegiate athlete in the race, placing behind professionals Cooper Teare and Cole Hocker competing for Nike. Hocker won the event in a new facility-record time of 2:16.30.
George Couttie followed with a fourth-place finish, running a personal-best 2:18.53 to rank No. 9 on the NCAA all-time list. Dylan DeCambre placed fifth with a personal-best 2:18.81, good for No. 13 all-time in the NCAA and No. 2 all-time for Jamaica.
Sam Idiens finished sixth in 2:19.39, moving to No. 17 on the NCAA all-time list, while Viktor Idhammar ran a personal-best 2:19.94 to post the fastest 1,000m in Swedish history and rank No. 25 all-time in the NCAA.
All five athletes now occupy the top five spots on Virginia Tech’s all-time 1,000m list: Plant (1st), Couttie (2nd), DeCambre (3rd), Idiens (4th) and Idhammar (5th).
The men’s distance medley relay also impressed, capturing first place with a time of 9:57.93. The squad consisted of Ben Reynolds (3:00.82), Matt Pueschner (50.84), Cameron Davis (1:53.22) and Ryan Chevalier (4:13.07).
Virginia Tech capped the day with strong showings in the men’s 4x400 relay, earning both first and second place. The winning squad of DeCambre, Idiens, Plant and Christian Jackson finished in 3:17.66, while Julian Roberson, Armaan Dhillon, Idhammar and Couttie placed second in 3:18.03.
On the women’s side, Katrin Brzyszkowska won the shot put with a season-best mark of 16.72 meters (54' 10.25"), securing her fourth consecutive event victory this season.
Chiara Sistermann also continued her dominant run, clearing 4.47 meters (14' 8") in the pole vault. The mark set a personal best, ranks No. 3 all-time in program history and is tied for ninth in the NCAA this season. It marked her fourth straight win.
Rounding out the women’s competition was a third-place finish in the 4x400 relay, as Farah Nasir, Ashley Fulton, Logan Daley and Kenza Elakari posted a season-best time of 3:48.25.

Virginia Tech will split its squad across multiple meets next week. The Hokies’ throwers will compete at the Darius Dixon Invitational in Lynchburg, Va., on Feb. 13. Sprinters head to the Tyson Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark., Feb. 13–14, while jumpers compete at the Don Kirby Invitational in Albuquerque, N.M., on the same dates. The remaining Hokies will stay home for the VT Showdown on Feb. 15 in Blacksburg.
