Hokies conclude weekend competitions with success

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Virginia Tech men's and women's track and field teams closed out the weekend at the Music City Challenge recording five personal-best times and a season-best 800m run by Lindsey Butler.
 
Butler finished first in the 800m with a season-best time of 2:02.86. Butler took over the lead in the final lap to clock in the ninth-fastest time in the nation this season. Star Price finished second with a time of 2:03.66.
 
Sophomore Nick Plant clocked in first for the Hokies recording an 800m personal-best time of 1:48.21, finishing second. Plant ranks fourth in the ACC with the sixth-fastest time in Tech history. Christian Jackson finished fifth with a time of 1:48.47.
 
Declan Rymer and Ryan Chevalier competed in the men's 3000m finishing sixth (8:02:68) and seventh (8:03.23), respectively. Elizabeth Coe placed 11th in the women's 3000m with a personal-best time of 9:32.53.
 
Sprints
In Fayetteville, Ark. Judson Lincoln IV clocked a season-best time of 20.84 in the 200m ranking second-best time in the conference.
 
Lincoln ran anchor in the 4x400m relay recording the fastest split time of the day (45.18) leading the Hokies to finish first in the fifth heat. Tech's KJ Tillmon, Kennedy Harrison, Max James, and Lincoln hold the fastest time in the ACC this season at 3:06.82.
 
Jumps
In Albuquerque, N.M. Victoria Gorlova jumped a season-best 43' 10.5" (13.37m) in the women's triple jump on her final attempt, finishing third. Recording a school-record mark (6.43m) in the triple jump on day one, Gorlova became the only female athlete in the NCAA to be ranked in the top 15 in both events.
 
Among current Russian athletes, Gorlova ranks third in the world in the long jump and fourth in the triple jump according to European Athletics.
 
Cierra Pyles finished ninth in the triple jump with a distance of 41' 11.25" (12.78m).
 
Chidozie Kalu placed second among collegiate-athletes competing in the men's triple jump reaching a distance of 51' 6.5" (15.71m).
 
Up Next
Hokies closeout the regular indoor season hosting the Virginia Tech Challenge on Feb. 16-17 at Rector Field House. Members of the distance team will travel to Boston on Feb. 16 to compete at the Boston University DMR.
