McClure secures bronze at NCAA Indoor Championships

BOSTON, Mass. – Virginia Tech's Conner McClure claimed bronze in the men's pole vault on Friday at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships in Boston, Mass.
 
"Conner did an amazing job" said assistant coach Bob Phillips! "To finish third after being ranked 10th is a great performance. It is clear he can jump higher and I'm looking forward to seeing what he can do outdoors."
 
McClure, a native of Green, Ohio, cleared a personal-best height of 18' 2.50" (5.55m) on his first attempt finishing third in his first NCAA Championship appearance. He qualified for the national meet clearing 18' 1.75" (5.53m) at the ACC Championships, finishing first.
 
Junior Sara Killinen earned her second First Team All-American honors finishing eighth in the weight throw on Thursday, March 7. Killinen moved into the top-nine with a third round throw of 70' 7.75" (21.53m).
 
Sophomore Nick Plant earned an automatic qualifying spot into the 800m finals on Saturday finishing second in the prelims with a personal-best time of 1:47.26. Judson Lincoln IV advanced to the 400m finals finishing second in the prelims at 45.72.
 
Lindsey Butler clocked a season-best time of 2:02.51 finishing second in the 800m prelims and secured her spot into the finals.
 
Sean Murphy sits seventh after the first four events of the men's heptathlon with 3258 points. Murphy achieved a personal-best mark of 46' 8.75" (14.24m) in the heptathlon shot put. He finished fifth in the high jump clearing 6' 6.75" (2.00m).
 
The men's distance medley relay team of Nick Plant, Judson Lincoln IV, Christian Jackson, and Ethan Coleman were awarded Second Team All-American honors finishing 10th with a time of 9:32.20.
 
Senior Victoria Gorlova placed 11th in the long jump with a distance of 20' 8.50" (6.31m).
