Hokie ClubWALNUT, Calif. - Junior Sara Killinen made her season-debut for Virginia Tech competing in the elite women's hammer throw on Saturday at the Mt. SAC Relays finishing third with a mark of 67.93m. Killinen opens the season ranked fourth in the nation.
"Great season-opener for Sara today," said associate head coach Andrew Dubs. "She had a consistent series and great focus against an incredible field of great women. I am proud of how she approached today and I am looking forward to the rest of her season."
Essence Henderson had a season-best throw in the discus elite event throwing 184'2" (56.13m), finishing ninth. Henderson also finished ninth in the shot put with a mark of 53' 3.5" (16.24m). On the men's side of throws, Khalil Bedoui finished 10th in the hammer throw with a distance of 209'3" (63.79m).
Jumps
Triple jumper Cierra Pyles finished fifth in the elite triple jump with a mark of 43'3.25" (13.19m), Victoria Gorlova finished ninth with a distance of 42'2.25" (12.86m). In the men's triple elite, Chauncey Chambers jumped 51'9.75" (15.79m) to claim 10th place. Representing the Hokies in the high jump, Aidan Clark placed ninth clearing the bar at 7'0.5" (2.15m).
Pole Vault
Julia Fixsen and Kenna Stimmel placed sixth and seventh in the elite section of the women's pole vault clearing 14'1.25" (4.30m). Fixsen joins Stimmel in the NCAA top 10 ranked tied for 10th, Stimmel is ranked third clearing 4.45m at the Weems Baskin Relays three weeks ago. Junior Jacob Rice finished eighth for the men clearing a height of 16' 10.75" (5.15m).
Distance
Lindsey Butler finished sixth in the 800m elite clocking in a time of 2:04.43, but previously ran a 2:02.78 in the 800m at the Bryan Clay Invitational ranking 13th in the NCAA.
Sprints
Men's 400m Elite
Sprinter Judson Lincoln IV competed in the men's 400m elite dash crossing the line eighth with time of 45.82. The men's 4x400m relay team of Kennedy Harrison, Judson Lincoln IV, Max James, and Kahleje Tillmon finished 10th clocking in a time of 3:09.99.
Bryan Clay
Hokies swept the men's 1500m B section going first, second, and third as Ethan Coleman, Ryan Chevalier, and Bryce Reeburgh crossed the finish line. Coleman clocked in a personal-best time of 3:43.28, followed by Chevalier (3:46.89) and Reeburgh (3:47.84). Viktor Idhammar attained a personal-best time of 3:41.05 in the men's 1500m invite finishing 31st in a field of 166 athletes.
Beach Invitational
Star Price won her second meet in California competing at the Beach Invitational on Saturday in the women's 800m. Price crossed the line with a time of 2:06.71, followed by Barbora Malikova finishing second with a season-best time of 2:07.91. In the men's 800m race, Nick Plant finished third clocking in a time of 1:48.73, followed by Ben Nagel in fifth wih a time of 1:49.87.
