Tatge joined the Hokies with more than 14 years of coaching experience, including stops at Bradley, Georgia State, Iowa, Louisiana Tech, Ohio State, Division II Lees-McRae College, NAIA Montreat College, Durham University in the United Kingdom and Division III Bethany Lutheran College. He also brings high school and club volleyball coaching experience.
At Bradley, Tatge helped the program to its best start since 2018 while serving as recruiting coordinator. He helped sign an MVC All-Conference First Team and All-Tournament Team selection, as well as an MVC Scholar-Athlete First Team honoree.
As recruiting coordinator at Georgia State, he helped land three Power Five transfers and signed seven additional student-athletes in less than 12 months to strengthen the roster.
Prior to Georgia State, Tatge was named co-interim head coach at Iowa. He helped guide the Hawkeyes to a program-record top-three overall winning percentage and a top-three Big Ten winning percentage. He also coached three current professional volleyball players and four program record holders.
At Louisiana Tech, Tatge helped lead the Lady Techsters to their best season since 2003, highlighted by an 11-4 start.
Tatge served as a volunteer assistant coach at Ohio State under Geoff Carlston in 2018. Before his time in Columbus, he spent three seasons as the head women’s volleyball coach at Lees-McRae College in Banner Elk, North Carolina, leading the Bobcats to postseason appearances in 2015 and 2016. He coached eight student-athletes to top-10 statistical marks in program history and also served as the assistant men’s volleyball coach, helping develop a libero who led the nation in digs per set.
He spent two seasons as an assistant coach at Montreat College in Montreat, North Carolina, earning 2014 AVCA Northeast Region Assistant Coach of the Year and Appalachian Athletic Conference Assistant Coach of the Year honors.
Tatge also served as the head men’s and assistant women’s volleyball coach at Durham University. His collegiate coaching career began in 2010 at Bethany Lutheran College in Mankato, Minnesota.
Tatge, a Lowell, Indiana, native, holds a master’s degree in management from Durham University Business School, a top-50 globally recognized program. He also holds a bachelor’s degree in history with a minor in business administration and coaching. He is USAV CAP I and IMPACT certified.
