Volleyball reveals 2024 competition schedule

STAY CONNECTED SCHEDULE

BLACKSBURG – Just 50 days from the start of the 2024 season, head coach Marci Byers announced the competition schedule for the Hokies.

The fall volleyball slate consists of 30 contests – 17 home and 13 road matches – featuring opponents from nine conferences (Big XII, Southern, Horizon League, MEAC, Big South, MAAC, A10, Patriot League and ACC). Plenty of ACC action is slated with 20 conference games on the schedule, complemented with 10 solid nonconference opponents.

The squad will face 26 total opponents, but will see action against Winthrop, Notre Dame, Syracuse, and Virginia twice in the schedule.  Virginia and Virginia Tech will see back-to-back action on November 6 and 8 for the 2024 Commonwealth Clash.

Road action opens on August 30 as the Hokies travel to Winthrop for the season opener before returning home for two contests to seal opening weekend play.

Immediately following the trio of individual contests, the squad launches into three weekends of tournaments, starting off at the VCU Invitational before returning home to Cassell Coliseum to host the Hokie Invitational and Virginia Tech Classic.

ACC play for the Hokies opens on the road at NC State on September 27 and concludes at home on November 29 when the squad plays host to Syracuse.  New to the conference this year, the Hokies will travel to California to face Cal and Stanford, and welcome SMU to Cassell Coliseum for their first official ACC matchups.

The Hokies are paired with nine teams that saw action in the 2023 postseason.  Winthrop (1st rd.) and Clemson (Great 8) were selected for participation in the NIVC Tournament. The seven 2023 NCAA Tournament teams the Hokies are slated to face in the 2024 schedule are Florida State (1st rd.), Miami and SMU (2nd rd.), Georgia Tech (3rd rd.), Louisville and Stanford (quarterfinals), and Pitt (semifinals).

Returning for her fifth season at the helm of the program is head coach Marci Byers.  Alongside Byers will be returning assistant coach Caleb Adams, with new staff members assistant coach William Tatge, assistant coach Sarah Gomish, and director of operations Haley Stangle.

The 2024 squad is comprised of two seniors, four juniors, five sophomores and eight freshmen.  Among the 10 returning letterwinners for the Hokies are Sierra Cates, Jasmine Robinson, Sarah Malinowski, Elizabeth Aylward, Kyra Hampton, Tatum Evans, Jordan Hallman and Ella Beyer.  Notable letterwinners from the 2023 season are Hailey Pearce, who accumulated 122 kills, 97 digs, and 43 total blocks in 2023 and Leandra Mangual Duran with 219 kills, 22 service aces, 206 digs, and 30 total blocks.  New to the squad in the 2024 season are Viktoria Wahlgren, Isabella Mishler, Nicole Zake, Aisha Keric, Belle Patrick, Ella Guilfoy, Erica Dellesky, Layla Collins and Ece Yildiz.
