Killinen and Stejfova capture silver and bronze on day one of the ACC Outdoor Championships

ATLANTA, Ga. – The Virginia Tech men's and women's track and field teams closed out day one of the ACC Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Thursday in Atlanta, Georgia at the George C. Griffin Track and Field Complex.

After scoring three events, the men's team is in third place with a score of 21.33 points. The women's team is fourth with 15 points.

Throws 
Senior Sara Killinen led the Hokies in the women's hammer throw finishing second with a mark of 209'10" (63.96m), scoring eight points. Freshman Barbora Stejfova claimed bronze with a third round personal-best throw of 206' 4" (62.90m). Killinen and Stejfova earned a combined 14 points for Virginia Tech giving the women's team an early lead over second place Clemson with 10 points.  

Freshman Lukas Baroke placed fourth in his first-ever ACC Championships competing in the men's hammer throw. Baroke earned second team All-ACC honors with a mark of 210' 8" (61.42m), scoring five points.  

Men's Pole Vault
Freshman Maddox Hamm earned First Team All-ACC honors claiming silver in pole vault with a clearance of 17' 7.5" (5.38m). Conner McClure and Harrison Rice were awarded second team honors finishing fourth and sixth, respectively at 16' 4" (4.98m).

Jack Helmich added to the team's score finishing tied for eighth at a height of 15' 10" (4.83m). The men's pole vault team added 16.33 points to the team's score.

Sprints
Judson Lincoln IV, KJ Tillmon, and Ali Diaby have advanced to the men's 200m finals on Saturday placing first, fourth, and seventh in the prelims. In heat one, Lincoln earned an automatic spot into the finals stopping the clock with the fastest time of the day (20.63), Tillmon followed behind in second at 20.83. Ali Diaby placed second in heat three of the 200m with a time of 21.00.

The men's 200m finals is set for 7:20 p.m. on Saturday.

Distance
In the women's 1500m prelims, Ava Hassebrock crossed the finish line third in heat one earning herself an automatic spot into the finals with a time of 4:30.06. Hassebrock will make her back to the track on Saturday for the finals at 5:30 p.m.

Ethan Mills clocked the 12th fastest time in the men's race stopping the clock at 3:44.84. Mills advances to the 1500m finals based on time. The men's 1500m finals are set for Saturday at 5:20 p.m.

Decathlon
Senior Sean Murphy sits second after five events in the men's decathlon with 3992 points. Murphy clocked personal-best times in the 100m (11.08) and 400m (49.24), as well as a personal-best mark of 47' 6.50" (14.49m) in shot put.

He placed second in the high jump clearing the bar at a season-best height 6' 4.75" (1.95m). In long jump, Murphy finished third with a season-best mark of 22' 6.5" (6.87m).
