McClure breaks ACC pole vault record at Texas Relays

AUSTIN, Texas -  Virginia Tech's Conner McClure set an all-time ACC record in the men's pole vault clearing a height of 18'10.25" (5.75m) on Saturday, March 30 at the 96th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays. 

McClure, a native of Green, Ohio, cleared the record-breaking height on his first-attempt in the elite section, meeting the automatic standards for the 2024 US Olympic Team Trials in June. He opens the outdoor season ranked second in the NCAA, and first in the ACC. 

Freshman Maddox Hamm won the men's pole vault on Thursday clearing a personal-best height of 18' 2.50" (5.55m). Harrison Rice placed fourth in the event clearing 17'4.50" (5.30m). 
Hamm ranks second in the ACC (fourth in NCAA), followed by Rice in third. 

Chiara Sistermann and Journey Gurley are tied for 13th in pole vault in the NCAA clearing 13' 11.25"  (4.25m) on Thursday. Sistermann placed second in the event clearing 4.25m on her first attempt, Gurley placed fourth clearing on her second attempt. 

GAINESVILLE, Fla. - The men's 4x400m relays team of Kennedy Harrison, KJ Tillmon, Ali Diaby, and Judson Lincoln IV broke the Hokies school record for a second time this season clocking in a time of 3:01.62.

The men moved up seven spots in the national rankings, currently ranked third in the NCAA and first in the conference. The men also rank first in the conference in the 4x100m with a time of 39.31 set at the Florida Relays on Saturday, 11th in the NCAA. 

LYNCHBURG, Va. - Freshman Gabe Norton set a personal-best in the triple jump with a mark of 46' 9" (14.25m) set at the Hornet Open, finishing second. 

Sean Murphy finished third in the 400m (49.92) and fourth in shot put with a mark of  46'1" (14.05m). Sprinter Chad Blaker placed sixth in the 100m with a time of 10.80. 

Up Next - Hokies prepare for a four meet weekend with the distance squad making their season-debut at the Colonial Relays in Williamsburg, Va. on April 5 - 6. Tech will also travel to the VertKlasse Meet in High Point, N.C. (pole vault), the Tennessee Invite in Knoxville, Tenn. (throws), and the Hurricane Alumni Invitational in Miami, Fla. (jumps).
