BLACKSBURG – Victoria Gorlova broke her own long jump school record on Day One of the Doc Hale Virginia Tech Meet jumping 20' 8" (6.30m) on her third attempt of the day. In a field of 32 athletes, Gorlova was the only female to clear 20-feet (6.10m) on four separate attempts. She currently leads the ACC and ranks 13th in the NCAA.
"I am really happy with Victoria's performance today," said associate head coach Paul Zalewski. "Her last few weeks of training have been excellent and I'm glad she's seeing the fruit of her labor. I am very excited for what's coming over the next few weeks for her as we prepare for the ACC and NCAA Championships."
In the men's long jump, Caleb Stephens placed third with a season-best mark of 23' 11" (7.29m).
Heptathlon
After four events, Virginia Tech's Nate Paris leads the men's heptathlon with 3252 points. Paris finished first in the 60m with a personal-best time of 6.90 to take an early lead over the pack. He placed second in long jump with a mark of 24' 2.50" (7.38m). Teammate Sean Murphy is currently sitting in second with 3211 finishing first in the high jump at 6' 8" (2.03m). Murphy finished second in shot put with a mark of 45' 9.75" (13.96m).
Sprints / Hurdles
Junior Barbora Malikova made her season-debut by clocking in the fastest women's 400m time this season in the ACC at 53.60. Kennedy Harrison finished second in the men's 400m with a time of 47.95, ranked ninth in the ACC.
KJ Tillmon claimed his first victory of the season winning the men's 60m final with a personal-best time of 6.76. Tillmon earned an automatic spot in the finals finishing first in his heat with a time of 6.79.
Senior Cierra Pyles placed fourth in the women's 60m hurdle finals crossing the finish line at 8.64. Pyles earned an automatic spot in the finals finishing first in heat three of the prelims.
Pole Vault
Freshman Maddox Hamm finished first among collegiate athletes clearing a personal-best height of 17' 5.50" (5.32m) on his first attempt. Hamm is currently tied for second in the ACC.
Throws
Sophomore Barbora Stejfova placed third in the women's weight throw with a mark of 65' 8.25" (20.02m).
Up Next
Day Two of the Doc Hale VT Meet begins at 9:30 a.m. with the men's unseeded pole vault. Khalil Bedoui set a personal-best mark of 64' 6.75" (19.68m) in the men's section.
