Lindsey Butler wins 1500m invite in Charlottesville

CHARLOTTESVILLE – Virginia Tech sophomore Lindsey Butler won the women's 1500m invite on Friday at the Virginia Challenge crossing the finish line with a personal-best time of 4:14.12. Butler's time is currently ranked seventh in the Atlantic Coast Conference and 31st in the NCAA. 

Viktor Idhammar placed third in the men's 1500m invite clocking the fifth fastest time in program history at 3:39.66. Idhammar moves up to 27th in the NCAA and 5th in the ACC. The top 48 nationally ranked athletes in each event will qualify to compete at the NCAA East Regionals in May. 

Freshman Nick Plant is ranked 43rd in the nation after running a personal-best time of 1:48.47 in the 800m invite finishing fifth. Ben Nagel followed behind finishing 12th with a time of 1:48.82. 

Throwers Sara Killinen, Rebecca Mammel, and Barbora Stejfova placed within the top 15 on day one of the Virginia Challenge in the hammer throw with Killinen leading the way for the Hokies with a mark of 217'0" (66.15m).

Killinen remains first in the ACC with a distance of 222'10" (67.93m) set at the Mt. SAC Relays. Mammel finished 12th throwing a distance of 191'10" (58.49m), followed by Stejfova in 14th with a mark of 187'0" (57.00m). 

Pole Vaulter Harrison Rice placed fourth in the men's invite clearing a season-best height of 16'8.75" (5.10m). Joey Badalamenti finished 10th with a season-best height of 16'4.75" (5.00m). Rice is fifth in the ACC followed by Badalamenti tied for seventh with teammate Conner McClure

The Virginia Tech men's and women's track and field team splits ways traveling to the Penn Relays in Philadelphia on Apr. 27 - 29, East Coast Relays in Jacksonville, Fla. on Apr. 28 - 29, and the Virginia High Performance meet on Sunday, April 30.
