Hokies open outdoor season in Raleigh, Columbia, and Lynchburg

BLACKSBURG – The Virginia Tech men's and women's track and field teams are set to open their outdoor season competing at the Raleigh Relays in Raleigh, N.C. on Thursday, March 23 through Saturday, March 25 at the Paul Derr Track and Field Facility.
 
The sprints/hurdles, jumps, multi-events, and pole vault groups will travel to Columbia, S.C. to compete at the Weems Baskin Invitational. The men's distance squad will travel to the Dr. Jack M Toms Alumni Invitational in Lynchburg, Va. on Friday, March 24 – Saturday, March 25.

 In Raleigh, Essence Henderson, Katrin Brzyszkowska, Katie Seyfang, and Tyson Jones are scheduled to open the season competing in shot put on Thursday. The men's and women's discus events are set for Friday, followed by the hammer throw on Saturday. Jones won the men's ACC Indoor Championships with a distance of 61' 3" (18.67m). 
 
At the Weems Baskin Invitational, Kenna Stimmel and Journey Gurley will make their way back to the runway for the first time since competing at the NCAA Indoor Championships. Stimmel was recently named the ACC Women's Indoor Freshman of the Year placing fourth at the NCAA Championships and first at the ACC Championships clearing 14' 5.25" (4.40m). The men's ACC pole vault champion Conner McClure is scheduled to compete with teammates Jacob Rice and Joseph Badalamenti. 
 
Sprinters Kennedy Harrison, Judson Lincoln IV, Amir Green, and Maximus James are set to compete in the 200m and 400m events. 2022 ACC Outdoor Championship runner-up Cole Beck is set to compete in the 100m. Layla Anderson and Cierra Pyles will take on the 100m hurdles. Jumps and multi-event athletes will compete on Friday and Saturday.
 
The men's distance squad is scheduled to compete in the 5000m, 1500m, and 400m events in Lynchburg, Va. 

Tech ended the indoor season winning both the men's and women's ACC championship titles for a second consecutive year.
