WILLIAMSBURG – On Monday the Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) announced the All-State University Division Indoor Track & Field teams, with 26 Hokies earning recognition and six claiming VaSID's major awards.
On the women's side the Hokies received seven first team honors and five second team honors, led by Field Athlete of the Year Rachel Baxter and Track Athlete of the Year Lindsey Butler, while Director of Track & Field and Cross Country Dave Cianelli earned the nod for Coach of the Year.
For the men's awards, Tech claimed nine first team honors and three second team honors, headlined by Track Athlete of the Year Antonio Lopez Segura and Field Athlete of the Year Jake Spotswood. Cianelli earned Coach of the Year honors on the men's side as well.
The six major awards won by the Hokies mark the most by one school in the four years that VaSID has honored All-State track & field, as Tech swept each of the men's and women's awards aside from Rookie of the Year.
VaSID's All-State teams are divided by event group, with three Sprints, two Mid-Distance, two Distance, four Jumps (including pole vault), two Throws, one Multis, one Hurdles, and one Distance Medley and 4x400m Relay on both the first and second teams.
Several Hokies have earned multiple appearances to the All-State teams in their careers. Rachel Baxter makes her fourth appearance and earns Field Athlete of the Year honors for the second time, achieving the impressive feat of earning inclusion on every VaSID All-State team since the award's inception in 2020.
Making their third All-State teams are Cole Beck, Lindsey Butler, and Chauncey Chambers, while Hannah Ballowe, Aidan Clark, Antonio Lopez Segura, and Alexios Prodanas have earned appearances on the second All-State team of their careers.
