Stephen Fishler

Assistant AD, General Manager for Women's Basketball

Virginia Tech women’s basketball head coach Megan Duffy tabbed Stephen Fishler as the program’s general manager on June 3, 2025.

With the Hokies, Fishler will develop strategic goals, work closely with the development team, and help manage various personnel within the program. In addition, he will help construct and manage rosters.

“We are thrilled to welcome Stephen Fishler to Hokie Nation!” Megan Duffy said. “As we continue to evolve into a new era of college athletics, a unique skill for our program’s development is critical. Stephen will be a perfect fit to support out student-athletes off the court. His ability to strategize, execute our vision and cultivate relationships at Virginia Tech and beyond is a game changer.”

Fishler comes to Blacksburg after a three-year tenure at Rutgers where he served as the chief of staff for the women’s basketball program. In Piscataway, he oversaw the administrative operations of the program and guided the Scarlet Knights in many areas including revenue share, NIL and donor cultivation, fiscal management, brand management and marketing and staff management. He worked closely with the head coach on various projects, including non-conference scheduling and contract specifics and ticket allotments. He also managed communication with season ticketholders and the women’s basketball booster club.

In addition, Fishler was the team’s primary liaison to the athletic department’s internal support units including compliance, oversight for all player NIL activities and required reporting, and the R Fund, which champions women’s basketball fundraising initiatives. He has experience working with external units as well, collaborating with marketing, sports information and brand advancement on social media and communications initiatives.

He organized and planned the Scarlet Knights’ summer 2023 foreign tour to Greece and Croatia.

Prior to Rutgers, Fishler served as the director of basketball operations with the Elon University women’s basketball program for five seasons. With Elon, Fishler oversaw all logistical day-to-day operations including team travel, budget maintenance/oversight, student manager supervision, summer camps, community and alumni out-reach and player personal development. He also served as a liaison between the program and internal and external constituents.

The Bethlehem, Pennsylvania native got his start is collegiate athletics at Penn State where he was a student manager and later graduate assistant with the women’s basketball program.

Fishler earned a bachelor’s degree in broadcast journalism from Penn State in 2016 and completed his master’s in education in curriculum and instruction, also at Penn State, in 2017. A lifelong learner, Fishler also completed his master’s in business administration from Elon University in 2021.
