Michael Romney joined the women’s basketball program in the summer of 2025 as a graduate assistant/video coordinator after earning two degrees from Duke in public policy and international comparative studies.
With the Hokies he will assist with practice planning, game preparation, player development, operations, mentoring student-athletes and recruiting.
In his four years in Durham, he was the head student manager with the women’s basketball program. With the Blue Devils, he assisted in the film room utilizing Synergy and Sportscode technologies, in addition to playing on the scout team during practices to simulate opponents’ principles. Duke won the 2025 ACC Women’s Basketball Championship and also advanced to the Elite Eight and in 2024 made it to the Sweet 16.
Romney began his coaching career as an assistant coach with the Lone Peak High School Varsity Boys in 2022. He helped lead the Bighorns to their best three-year stretch in program history and their first ever appearance in the Montana Class C State Tournament in 2023.
