Virginia Tech women’s basketball head coach Megan Duffy named Jerod McCullen the program’s director of video and player development on May 2, 2024. In his role, McCullen oversees the coordination of all film operations within the program while also assisting with player development and scouting.
In his second season in Blacksburg, the Hokies posted a 23-10 overall record and went 12-6 in ACC play, marking just the fourth time in program history Virginia Tech recorded 12 conference victories in a season. The Hokies advanced to the second round of the ACC Tournament with a win over Georgia Tech as the No. 6 seed before earning an NCAA Tournament berth.
Virginia Tech went a perfect 9-0 at Cassell Coliseum against non-conference opponents, highlighted by a 68-64 victory over Florida in the ACC/SEC Challenge, where Carys Baker recorded a 23-point, 10-rebound double-double. The Hokies also completed a Commonwealth Clash sweep of Virginia Cavaliers women's basketball with wins in both Blacksburg and Charlottesville, marking the program’s first regular-season sweep of the Cavaliers since 2022-23.
Individually, Carleigh Wenzel and Baker earned All-ACC Second Team honors following standout campaigns, while Wenzel also garnered WBCA Division I Coaches’ All-America honorable mention recognition.
During McCullen’s first season with the Hokies, Virginia Tech finished 19-13 overall and 9-9 in ACC play. The year featured several notable program milestones, including the program’s first-ever SEC/ACC Challenge victory with a 70-61 road win over Georgia at Stegeman Coliseum.
Virginia Tech also set a program record with 105 points in a double-overtime victory over Georgia Tech, as all five starters scored in double figures and three Hokies eclipsed the 20-point mark for the first time since Dec. 21, 2022, against High Point. Additionally, the Hokies scored 80 or more points in six ACC contests, the program’s highest total in conference play since joining the league.
McCullen came to Blacksburg after spending one season at the University of Kentucky as the women’s basketball coaching video coordinator. In his one season in Lexington, he assisted the Wildcats with coordination of film, scouting, video projects and assisting coaches in various aspects of the program including assistant coach Jen Hoover.Prior to Kentucky, McCullen spent three seasons as the director of operations at Central Michigan (2020-22). There, he administered travel arrangements, handled all video responsibilities, assisted in equipment duties, oversaw managers and practice players, and facilitated camps and other team events. He also aided coaches and staff members in the day-to-day operations of the program.
Before that, McCullen served two seasons as a student manager at CMU (2019-20). He assisted with equipment, film exchange and other video responsibilities, and helped coordinate travel.
He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in sports management from Central Michigan in December of 2022.
