Sims moved to Blacksburg in July of 2022 in his new role of player personnel specialist where he will be responsible for assisting the coaching staff with recruit database management, reserve coaches recruiting travel logistics, manage video library of potential prospects and coordinate both unofficial and official visit campus itineraries. Sims will also assist with film exchange, breakdown and scouting reports and schedule the male practice squad.
He came to the Hokies after spending one season as VCU women’s basketball’s video coordinator. In that role, Sims oversaw the filming of games and practices in addition to film exchange, breakdown and assisting with scouting operations.
Prior to his time in Richmond, he worked with Indiana’s women’s basketball program since 2017, where he began as a male practice player before becoming a graduate assistant in 2019. Sims assisted the coaching staff in all aspects of game preparation, including film and scouting reports and managed the male practice team. Sims also helped with player development,
Sims also spent time as a coaching intern at DistinXion, Inc. where he was an assistant coach for a U-17 team while also cutting and editing high school film in his development of an evaluation process for the AAU coaching staff.
The Fort Wayne, Indiana native owns two degrees from Indiana: a bachelor’s degree in sports marketing and management and a Master’s in public management.
