Swanson, from Barrington, Illinois played for two seasons at Purdue where she averaged 8.02 points in her 55 games with the Boilermakers, with eight starts. She scored a career-high 29 points in the penultimate game of the season at Penn State. In that contest she went 10-13 from the field and connected on five 3-pointers, both of which are also career highs. Her freshman season, Swanson played in 27 contests as the Boilermakers went 15-19 and competed in the WNIT. This past season, she was inserted into the starting lineup eight times in 28 games.
