Joined Virginia Tech men’s basketball staff: 2021 and enters his third year with the program and second as the assistant director of operations after serving as an intern in operations in 2019-20.
With the Hokies: Whipp works directly with the Hokies’ chief of staff and head coach. He also manages day-to-day duties, including budgeting and finances.
Prior to the men’s basketball staff: Whipp was the Director of Operations for Virginia Tech lacrosse during the 2020-21 academic year, following an apprenticeship at Army where he assisted the football program in various capacities that included recruiting visits and the West Point Point Football Prospect Camp.
He also spent time at nearby Radford University where he promoted the operational tasks and assignments of the Senior Associate AD and helped to develop the Policies and Procedures Manual.
At Virginia Tech, he has worked as the Director of Operations for the softball program, an intern in operations for men’s basketball and an equipment manager for the women’s basketball program, in addition to his most recent role with lacrosse.
Education: Roanoke, 2019 (B.S. Sports Management).
Personal: A native of Cornelius, North Carolina, Whipp currently resides in Blacksburg.
