Responsibilities: Eddie is the primary athletic trainer for the Men’s Basketball team.

At Virginia Tech: Eddie Benion is in his first season as the Assistant Athletics Director for Sports Medicine at Virginia Tech.
 
Prior to Virginia Tech: Eddie has spent the previous eight seasons as the Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Medicine at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU). He managed the Department of Sports Medicine and was responsible for all Athletic Training Services including staff management, mentoring athletic training interns and student volunteers, coordination of preseason athletic physicals and in season medical care, management of insurance claims, supervising the drug testing program and maintaining supply inventory and equipment. Prior to joining the Rams, Eddie spent six years as the Head Athletic Trainer at Cleveland State University (CSU). He was the Primary Athletic Trainer for the Men’s Basketball team as well as coordinated the Athletic Training Services for the Athletic Department. Prior to joining CSU, he spent six years as the Head Athletic Trainer at Alabama A & M University (AAMU).
 
Education:University of Missouri, 1995 (BS in Nutrition and Physical Fitness with a Concentration in Athletic Training); Michigan State University, 2004 (MS in Kinesiology)

Of Note:Eddie served as a Graduate Assistant Athletic Trainer (1996-1998) at Michigan State University working with the school’s football, men's soccer and cheerleading teams. While an undergrad, he worked for three years as a student athletic trainer coordinating athletic training services for women's volleyball. He also completed a pair of athletic training internships with the National Football League, working with the New York Football Giants preseason camp in 1994 and for the Kansas City Chiefs in 1995. In addition to his Certification in Athletic Training through the Board of Certification, Inc., he holds certifications in Corrective Exercise Specialization (CES), Performance Enhancement Specialization (PES), Functional Movement Screen (FMS) and the Graston Technique. Eddie is a member of the National Athletic Trainer's Association and has been a member of this organization since 1993.
 
Personal:  A native of St. Louis, MO, Eddie enjoys spending time with family and friends, sports, music and fine dining experiences.
