Hokies podium three times during third day of Championships

ACC Championships Day 3 Results

GREENSBORO – The Hokies finished day three of the 2023 ACC Championships with a gold medal won by Youssef Ramadan, a silver medal from Nico Garcia Saiz and a bronze medal from Emma Atkinson. Atkinson also set a new school record in the women's 200 free.

HIGHLIGHTS

Women

Junior Emma Atkinson broke her first individual school record of the year in the 200 free. She made her way to the podium in third place with a time of 1:43.31. Atkinson also helped set a school record in the 800 free relay swam during the first day of competition. Teammate Carmen Weiler Sastre, just a few places behind Atkinson, placed seventh in the 200 free with a time of 1:46.16.

Men

Starting the men's events off to a strong start, Nico Garcia Saiz placed second, earning a silver medal in the 400 IM with a time of 3:41.63. Just two places behind him, teammate Keith Myburgh finished fourth with a time of 3:42.46. 

The men dominated the 100 fly with five Hokies making it to finals. During prelims, William Hayon made his way to the fifth top time in school history with a time of 45.92. During finals, Youssef Ramadan struck gold with a time of 43.93, beating his top time in the nation and placing first on the podium. In sixth place, Mario Molla Yanes finished the championship heat at 45.47.

Finishing off the night was Luis Dominguez in the 200 free, placing sixth in the A-final with a time of 1:33.13.
