Kenna Stimmel named VaSID Field Athlete of the Year

BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech pole vaulter Kenna Stimmel earned Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) Women's Indoor Field Athlete of the Year, and Field Rookie of the Year honors on Thursday, as Stimmel and 10 other Hokies earned all-state honors.

Last month, Stimmel was named ACC Women's Field Athlete of Year and earned USTFCCCA First Team All-American honors finishing fourth at the NCAA Indoor Championships. She won the ACC Indoor Track and Field Championships clearing a height of 14'5.25" (4.40m). 

Stimmel received first teams all-state honors along with teammates Lindsey Butler, Victoria Golova, Cierra Pyles, Sara Killinen, and Rebecca Mammel.  Gorlova won the women's triple jump at the conference championships for a second consecutive year with a mark of 43'0.25" (13.11m), Pyles finished second.  Mammel broke the ACC Championship meet record finishing first with a distance of 76'5" (23.29m) in the women's weight throw, her second career ACC indoor championship. Butler, Gorlova, Killinen, Mammel, and Stimmel competed at the 2023 NCAA Indoor Championships bringing home seven USTFCCCA All-American honors along with teammates Julia Fixsen and Journey Gurley

Mid-distance runner Ava Hassebrock was awarded second team all-state honors along with the women's distance medley relay team of Hannah Ballowe, Barbora Malikova, Grace Boone, and Lindsey Butler. 

Director of Track & Field and Cross Country Dave Cianelli was named the women's indoor VaSID Coach of the Year with the women's team winning the ACC Indoor Championships. Cianelli was previously named the women's ACC Indoor Track and Field Coach of the Year at the end of last month.
