HEADLINES FROM LAST WEEK
Women's soccer shut out No. 22 NC State on the road Sunday 1-0, following up its impressive performance last Thursday by defeating Wake Forest 2-0.
Volleyball took down Clemson 3-2 to open ACC play, with Ava Francis finishing with a season-high 17 kills.
Swimming and diving started off its season with the annual Hokie Belt Challenge, an intersquad meet that encompassed splitting equally into two teams – maroon and orange. Orange took the win on both sides for the men's and women's competitions.
Both tennis teams opened their fall season, with the men playing well at Duke and women doing so at Elon and William & Mary.
Aisha Sheppard, who was a five-year letter winner for women's basketball at Tech, became the first Hokie to win a WNBA championship.
Earning win No. 100 in his storied career, men's soccer head coach Mike Brizendine got it against Longwood by a score of 4-0.
Women's golf was led by Becca DiNunzio at the Mercedes-Benz Collegiate in Knoxville, Tennessee, with her carding a 6-under (207) to place seventh.
