GREENSBORO, N.C. – The ACC announced its 2022 Women's and Men's Indoor Track All-ACC Academic Team on Wednesday morning, as Lindsey Butler earned Women's Scholar-Athlete of the Year honors while 16 other Hokies gained recognition on the academic teams.
Butler becomes the first Hokie since Torben Laidig in 2018 to be named Scholar-Athlete of the Year in either men's or women's track & field, and her honor comes after a historic season for Tech. The junior from Corning, N.Y. earned the Hokies' first 800m national title by winning the event at the 2022 NCAA Indoor Championships with a facility record of 2:01.37. Butler also earned her second consecutive ACC Indoor 800m championship, cruising ahead of the field with a blistering time of 2:01.23 to smash the Virginia Tech, Rector Field House, and ACC Championships records. By earning the title of Women's Scholar-Athlete of the Year, Butler has now earned inclusion on her third All-ACC Track & Field Academic team.
Joining Butler on the All-ACC Academic Teams are 16 more of Tech's athletes, including nine women and seven men. Among the Hokies honored by the conference are several athletes who have received multiple honors. Jacob Rice and Harrison Rice both earn their fourth All-ACC academic honor, Rachel Baxter, Patrick Forrest, Antonio Lopez Segura, and Alexios Prodanas earn their third, and Grace Boone picks up her second honor.
Recognitions continue rolling in for the Hokies after a historic indoor season. At the 2022 ACC Indoor Championships the Hokies swept the team titles, as the men won their second-consecutive indoor championship and the women clinched the co-championship by tying with Duke. Butler, Baxter, and Malíková took home all three major ACC awards (Track, Field, and Freshman of the Year) while Director of Track & Field and Cross Country Dave Cianelli was named both Men's and Women's ACC Indoor Coach of the Year.
The 17 Hokies named to the All-ACC Academic Team this season collected two NCAA championships, five ACC titles, both men's and women's ACC team titles, six new school records, and put together 12 All-American and 18 All-ACC performances.
