Virginia Tech women's basketball's undefeated start has given it national recognition, as the program rose to No. 9 in the AP Poll Monday afternoon.
Monday night, men's basketball continued to impress as the Hokies picked up their fifth home win of the season, with a 67-57 victory over Minnesota. Tech dominated in the rebound department, tying a season high with 42 boards. The Hokies' plus-15 rebound margin is the third largest against a high major opponent in the Mike Young era.
Football had six of its players honored Tuesday as the Atlantic Coast Conference announced its 2022 All-ACC teams. Silas Dzansi (OL), Kaleb Smith (WR), TyJuan Garbutt (DL), Dax Hollifield (LB), Mansoor Delane (DB) and Tucker Holloway (PR) all earned honorable mentions.
Senior Elizabeth Kitley continues to rack up the awards, as on Wednesday, she was named to the watch list for the Wade Trophy – the oldest and most prestigious national player of the year award in college women's basketball.

As the 2022 calendar year comes to a close, Virginia Tech Athletics will spend the month of December celebrating the Hokies' standout achievements from the past 12 months in a campaign called "Moments of Excellence." Each varsity sport program will have an outstanding moment featured during December on the official Virginia Tech Athletics website and @HokieSports social media properties.
The National Football League announced Thursday that Washington kicker Joey Slye has been named the NFC Special Teams Player of the Month for November. The former Hokie went 10-for-10 on field goals and 9-of-10 on extra points.
Last week, Kroger donated 500 turkeys to Feeding Southwest Virginia that will go to local families who rely on food banks and food pantries to feed their households. The donation is a result of Touchdown for Turkeys, a campaign that encompassed Kroger pledging to donate 10 turkeys for every touchdown scored by the Hokies during the 2022 football season. Virginia Tech finished the season with 27 touchdowns, however, Kroger kicked the "extra point" and donated an additional 230 turkeys to bring the total to 500.
Thursday, women's basketball defeated Nebraska in an 85-54 home victory, backed by junior Georgia Amoore's record-setting performance. Her 24 points, 10 rebounds and 11 assists cemented her as the first player ever to record a triple-double in program history.
Lacrosse's Olivia Vergano was named one of 15 ACC student-athlete recipients of the 2022 Go Teach Dr Pepper Tuition Giveaway on Friday. Each recipient will receive $2,500 on behalf of the College Football Playoff Foundation and Dr Pepper to assist in their continued pursuit of a degree or career in education. Vergano had a breakout freshman campaign in 2022, as she was named to the ACC's All-Freshman team and an Inside Lacrosse All-American honorable mention.
No. 10 wrestling had five Hokies find the podium at the 40th Annual Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational.
Over the weekend, four Hokies qualified for the U.S. Olympic Trials. Caroline Bentz, Emma Atkinson, AJ Pouch and Forest Webb qualified for the 2024 U.S. Olympic Trials during their time in Greensboro at the Toyota U.S. Open Championships.
In Knoxville, Tennessee, a strong defensive performance led women's basketball to a 59-56 victory over the Lady Volunteers on Sunday. Tech held Tennessee to only 14.3 percent shooting from beyond the arc and 33.3 percent from the field. The Hokies had four players score in double figures, with senior Kayana Traylor leading the way with 18 points.
Men's basketball picks up its first ranked win of the season after an 80-72 victory over No. 18 North Carolina on Sunday. The Hokies were led by senior Justyn Mutts, who recorded his fourth double-double of the season, posting 27 points and 11 rebounds in Sunday's win.
