Tech takes on four meets over pivotal weekend of competition

BLACKSBURG – With the 2022 ACC Outdoor Championships just two weeks away, Hokies track & field hits the road again this weekend for important competitions as athletes round into postseason form.

First to get underway this weekend will be the jumps, multis, and pole vault groups in Athens, Ga. at the Torrin Lawrence Memorial. The two-day meet hosted by Georgia will run Friday and Saturday at Spec Towns Track and will be live streamed on ESPN+.

Also kicking off on Friday are the sprinters as they head to Jacksonville, Fla. for the UNF Invite. Hosted by North Florida at Hodges Stadium, the meet will run Friday evening and all-day Saturday.

Making the trek out to Tucson, Ariz. are the throwers who will compete in the Desert Heat Classic hosted by Arizona. The one-day meet will get underway at 4 PM ET on Saturday at Roy P. Drachman Stadium.

The Hokies' distance group closes out the weekend on Sunday in Charlottesville with the Virginia Grand Prix. Action will begin Sunday evening to finish up the fourth meet of Tech track & field's weekend.

Joining Beck in the event and on the 4x100m relay will be Kennedy Harrison, Kahleje "KJ" Tillmon, and Torrence Walker. The four sprinters have set school records in the relay the previous two times they have ran the event.

Also making a homecoming this weekend is Tyson Jones, the Arizona native slated to compete in both the shot put and discus at the Desert Heat Classic. Also competing in the shot put will be Essence Henderson, as the hammer trio of Sara Killinen, Rebecca Mammel, and Khalil Bedoui look to record big marks as well.

To close out the weekend, the distance group looks to dominate in Charlottesville. Hannah Ballowe, Leigha Torino, and Seb Anthony take on the 800m once again, as Ava Hassebrock, Ben Fleming, and Antonio Lopez Segura compete in the 1500m.
