Steve Johnson Practice Field

Steve Johnson Practice Field

The Steve Johnson Practice Field, located between the Beamer-Lawson Indoor Practice Facility, Jamerson Athletics Center and Lane Stadium, is named in honor of Steve Johnson, a former Virginia Tech football player and longtime contributor who played tight end from 1984-87 and made a gift to the Beamer-Lawson Indoor Facility in 2013.

The playing surface of the well-maintained football field is a marvel of precision and care, designed to offer both beauty and performance. The lush, emerald-green grass is meticulously manicured, with each blade trimmed to the perfect height to ensure optimal traction for players. The field's surface is level and firm, yet forgiving, providing a stable foundation for players to execute their moves with confidence. With a well-drained, carefully engineered base, the field remains resilient against weather conditions, ensuring that it remains an ideal stage for the dynamic play of football.
