2019-20: NCAA Qualifier… Finished second at the ACC Championships to claim an automatic qualification to the NCAAs… Won a 4-1 decision over NC State’s Thomas Bullard to advance to the final and secure an automatic bid to the NCAA Championships… Finished with a 10-3 dual record… Beat West Virgina’s Nick Kiussis by a 16-7 major decision for his 100th career win, becoming the 13th Hokie to reach the 100-win plateau… Went 4-1 and finished second at the Midlands Championships, including a win over Evan Wick of Wisconsin… Won the title at 165-pound title at the Navy Classic after going 5-0… Won by 18-6 major decision over Northwestern’s Shayne Oster at the Mat on the Mound…. Defeated Missouri’s Peyton Mocco by major decision to help Tech pull the upset over the ninth-ranked Tigers.
2018-19: NCAA All-American … ACC Champion … Lost to Army’s Ben Harvey by a 5-3 decision in sudden victory overtime in the second round but went 5-1 in the consolation bracket to place fifth … Won four-straight on the backside including a 20-9 major decision over eighth-seeded Taylor Lujan of Northern Iowa and a 2-0 decision over fifth-seeded Jordan Kutler of Lehigh … Defeated 10th-seeded Mikey Labriola of Nebraska by a 4-3 decision in the fifth-place match … Became the third Hokie – joining Devin Carter and Solomon Chishko – to All-American at two different weight classes … Tech’s fifth three-time All-American … Was the top seed at the 2019 ACC Championships in Blacksburg and went 2-0 to win his second conference title … Defeated Cornell’s Brandon Womack by an 8-6 decision … Went 5-0 in ACC duals … Placed third at the Southern Scuffle with wins over Iowa State’s Marcus Coleman, Edinboro’s Jacob Oliver and NC State’s Trent Hidlay … Represented the United States at 79 kg on the U23 World Team … Went 1-2 at the U23 World Championships in Romania.
2017-18: NCAA All-American … Placed fifth at 165 pounds, arguably the deepest weight class in the nation in 2018 … VaSID All-State first team ... Went 4-2 at NCAAs … Defeated Duke’s Zach Finesilver, majored Arizona State’s Anthony Valencia and beat Wisconsin’s Evan Wick with a 3-0 decision to advance to the semifinals … Lost to eventual national champion Vincenzo Joseph of Penn State in the semis, 3-1 … Pinned Iowa’s Alex Marinelli in the fifth place match in 5:14 … Set a new program single season record with a .945 winning percentage (35-2) … Finished the regular season with a perfect record of 29-0 … Was the first Virginia Tech wrestler to finish the regular season undefeated since Scott Justus in 2001-02 … Tore through the ACC Tournament as the No. 1 seed at 165 pounds, picking up a 13-4 major decision over Pitt’s Jake Wentzel in the semifinals and a 22-9 major decision over Duke’s Zach Finesilver in the finals to win his first ACC title … Two-time ACC Wrestler of the Week (Nov. 14, Dec. 5) … Racked up 15 bonus point victories during the regular season … Started the year with six consecutive bonus wins … Defeated Lehigh’s Gordon Wolf, 11-7, and fourth-ranked Chandler Rogers of Oklahoma State, 4-3, as part of a 3-0 showing en route to the 165-pound title at the Journeymen Collegiate Classic … Went 5-0 with wins over Ohio State’s Ts’Shan Campbell and Wisconsin’s Evan Wick to become the Hokies’ third Cliff Keen Invitational champion … Pinned Wick in 2:58 in the finals, the first win by fall in a Cliff Keen final since 2013 … Registered a 16-5 major decision over No. 15 Anthony Valencia of Arizona State at the Virginia Duals.
2016-17: Redshirted … Missed the season while recovering from a torn ACL that he suffered at the 2016 NCAA Championships … Went 17-2 wrestling unattached … Won his first 10 matches … Collected 13 bonus point victories … First seven wins earned bonus points … Went 2-2 at Junior World Team Trials … Won the 165-pound title at the Cleveland State Open after going 5-0 against the field … Took home the 165-pound title at the Franklin & Marshall Open … Beat Virginia’s MJ Roberson by tech fall, 17-1 at 4:20, and pinned NC State’s Daniel Bullard in :58 at the Appalachian Open.
2015-16: McFadden opened his freshman year with back-to-back victories over ranked opponents from Iowa State and Penn State ... downed Tyler McNutt from North Dakota State in a 12-2 major decision before moving to 4-0 in dual meet action with a victory in South Dakota over Luke Zilverberg... went 2-2 at the 2015 Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational ... earned a 10-3 victory at George Mason versus Blake Ruolo ... went 3-1 at Virginia Duals ... went 1-4 against ACC competition ... picked up a major decision against Jordan Amine to help the Hokies defeat Michigan in the inagural National Duals Championship Series ... stormed thorugh the 165 pound competition at the ACC Championship to finish third, earning an automatic bid to Nationals ... finished 5-3 in Madison Square Garden, earning his first All-American honors with a 6th place finish at the NCAA Championship.
High School: McFadden was a New Jersey state champion in 2014 and 2015 at 145 pounds and took sixth as a sophomore (126 pounds) and second as a freshman (113 pounds). McFadden placed second at the 2014 Junior Nationals and enters his senior season with a career record of 118-8.
