Kelly Murphy joined the Hokies in June 2019, and will be responsible for the strength and conditioning training of volleyball, softball, and swimming and diving.
Before Tech, Murphy was the Assistant Sports Performance and Nutrition Coach at Barton College. She was responsible for providing sport nutrition services to all student-athletes as well as overseeing the sport performance training for men’s and women’s soccer, men’s and women’s golf, men’s and women’s cross country and throwing, men’s and women’s swimming, men’s and women’s lacrosse, softball and baseball.
Prior to Barton, Murphy was a Sport Performance Coaching Assistant at Duke University where she worked with many sports, including men’s and women’s swimming and diving, men’s lacrosse, women’s lacrosse, track and field, women’s soccer, rowing, baseball and football.
While working on her master’s degree, Murphy was a Sports Performance Intern at Columbia University during the 2016-2017 academic year, assisting with coaching multiple Olympic sports. Before coaching, Murphy ran a wellness company in Dallas, Texas.
Murphy has a master’s degree from Columbia University in Applied Exercise Physiology and a bachelor of science in Nutritional Sciences with a concentration in Dietetics from Cornell University. While at Cornell, Murphy was a four-year varsity soccer player.
She is a Registered Dietitian (RD), Strength and Conditioning Coach Certified (SCCC) by the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association and Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) by the National Strength and Conditioning Association.
