Stewart Carter

Director of Football Equipment Services
Stewart Carter is in his third season as director of football equipment after joining the staff in January of 2022. Carter has more than 30 years of experience in the athletic equipment field. 
 
Carter joined the Hokies from Penn State where he served as assistant equipment manager for eight years working with Pry and the Nittany Lions’ program. Carter assisted with the budgeting and issuing of equipment and apparel and oversaw the student staff at Penn State.
 
Prior to Penn State, Carter served as the head equipment manager at Georgia Southern for 14 years where he outfitted all 16 of the school’s varsity programs. He was named the Athletic Equipment Managers Association (AEMA) District 3 Equipment Manager of the Year in 2009 and served on the Schutt Sports Athletic Council from 2005-06. Carter also designed the equipment room for the 50,000 square-foot football operations center at Georgia Southern. 
 
Before arriving at Georgia Southern, Carter worked at Fresno State for six years, beginning his tenure as an assistant equipment manager in 1994. In that role, he handled the budgeting and inventory of equipment for the football, baseball and men’s and women’s soccer programs. He was promoted to equipment manager in 1997 and oversaw the equipment needs for men’s basketball, men’s golf, men’s tennis, wrestling and the men’s track and cross-country programs.   
 
Carter began his athletic equipment career as the head student equipment manager while an undergraduate at Georgia Tech. Upon graduation, he worked as an athletic equipment reconditioner for Circle System Group where he evaluated athletic equipment for repairs before moving to Fresno State. 
 
Carter graduated from Georgia Tech with a degree in management in 1994 and earned his certification from the AEMA in 1997. He and hs wife, Rose, reside in Blacksburg.
