Head Football Athletic Trainer

Responsibilities: Griesemer helps coordinate all sports medicine needs for the Virginia Tech football program.

Joined VT Athletics Staff: 2010

At Virginia Tech: Griesemer came to Virginia Tech in 2010 and was a graduate assistant in the sports medicine office for two years while working on his master’s degree. During that time, he served as the athletic trainer for the track and field and cross country programs and assisted with football. Upon completion of his master’s degree, Griesemer started work as the athletic trainer for the baseball program, as well as an assistant athletic trainer for the football program. In 2018, Griesemer was promoted to senior director, working with the football program. In 2021, Griesemer was promoted to Head Football Athletic Trainer. Griesemer also coordinates and helps facilitate a number of different research initiatives throughout the athletics department, including measuring head accelerations in student-athletes, force data collection, functional imaging and conducting brain biomarker research.

Prior to Virginia Tech: Griesemer worked for three years as student athletic trainer at the University of Florida, working with the football program as well as Buchholz High School and Sante Fe College. He also worked a summer athletic training internship with the Houston Texans in the summer of 2010.

Education: University of Florida, 2010 (B.S. in athletic training); Virginia Tech, 2012 (master’s in instructional technology).

Family: Griesemer and his wife, Megan, a member of the Virginia Tech Athletics compliance staff, have two sons and a daughter - Maddox, Cohen and Bailey.
