Took a redshirt season after being forced into action as a freshman in 2002 ... Used last fall to concentrate on punting ... Also put in some work on kickoffs during the spring ... Was impressive in both areas during the Hokies' 2004 Maroon-White game ... Was slated to redshirt as a freshman, but was called into action when starter Carter Warley was sidelined with back problems ... Was perfect on extra points, but experienced a series of ups and downs with his field goals ... Began to show more consistency while focusing on his punting last year ... May get involved in place-kicking again this fall ... A left-footed kicker with an extremely powerful leg ... Will challenge Vinnie Burns for the punting duties and leads the candidates for the kickoff job ... Can become an important member of the special teams if he maintains his consistency ... 2003: Was redshirted during the fall while concentrating on his punting ... Won Super Iron Hokie honors in the weight room during the preseason and in the spring ... Set position marks for a specialist with a 604-pound squat, a 316-pound power clean and a 341-pound push jerk ... Had a 62-yard punt and booted a 22-yard field goal during Tech's final spring scrimmage ... Averaged 52.6 yards on five punts during the spring game with a long of 60 ... Put two of his kickoffs through the end zone ...
2002: Dressed for the first three games, but did not play ... Was forced into action for the Boston College game when Carter Warley was sidelined with a back problem ... Kicked off twice in the first half against the Eagles ... Was successful on his four extra points, but barely missed his lone field goal attempt, a 41-yarder ... Was successful on all five extra points against Rutgers, but missed his lone field goal attempt, a 36-yarder ... Connected on his first collegiate field goal against Temple, a 21-yard attempt ... Later made a 22-yard kick ... Missed from 42 yards out, but made both of his extra points ... Was 3-for-3 on PATs against Pittsburgh, but missed a 42-yard field goal in the fourth quarter ... Kicked two long field goals (46, 47 yards) in Tech's jayvee game against Hargrave ... Also punted six times for a 42-yard average in that game ... Saw brief action at Miami, kicking off after Tech's last score ... Earned Super Iron Hokie honors during the off-season with a 340-pound bench press and 530-pound back squat ... Kicked an extra point in the Maroon-White game and punted three times for a 34.3-yard average ...
High School: An all-state kicker who scored 223 points during his three varsity seasons for Coach Willis White at Salem High ... Connected on 8-of-12 field goals as a senior and made all 30 of his extra point attempts ... Was 40-of-41 on extra points his junior season ... Also made 15-of-19 field goals that season ... Kicked the game-winning extra point in the 1999 Group AA championship game ... Made 127 of 128 PAT kicks during his career and was 32-for-43 on field goal attempts ... His longest field goal in a game was 48 yards ... Averaged 39 yards as a punter his senior season and 38 as a junior ... Set school records for most points, most extra points and most field goals ...
