A very capable kicker who heads into preseason practice as the leader for the Hokies' place-kicking duties ... Handled Tech's kickoff duties for the majority of the 2003 season ... Attempted and made an extra point in his only action as the place-kicker ... Wasn't as consistent as coaches had hoped during spring practice, but the ability is there ... Has quick steps into the football which gives him good operation time ... Gets good height on the ball ... If he can put everything together on a consistent basis this fall, he will give the Tech offense a real lift ... 2003: Played in 12 games ... Handled 62 of Tech's 93 kickoffs ... Placed his kicks, on an average, at the 7.7-yard line ... Had 10 touchbacks ... Recorded a solo tackle on special teams against No. 2 Miami ... Had an assisted tackle against Boston College ... Kicked an extra point in the Insight Bowl ... Improved in all four major lifts during the off-season strength and conditioning program ... Was 3-for-6 on field goals during Tech's last three spring scrimmages ... Had a long of 42 yards ... Missed from 42, 50 and 47 yards out ... Missed a 32-yard attempt during the 2004 Maroon-White game ...
2002: Joined the team as an invited walk-on ... Competed for the place-kicking, kickoff and punting duties during the preseason ... Went through additional competition for the place-kicking duties when Carter Warley was sidelined during the season ... Coaches decided to hold him out of action and redshirt him ... Booted an extra point and a 35-yard field goal during one spring scrimmage ... Added another PAT kick during the Maroon-White game ...
High School: Was a four-year letterman as a kicker and punter for Coach Mike Dewitt at Kellam High ... Set school record for career scoring by a kicker ... Made 18 field goals during his career, including a game-winning 37-yarder that earned Kellam its first-ever victory in a playoff game ... Had three games with more than 10 points kicking during his senior season ... Was named the first-team Group AAA kicker that year ... Also earned all-area, all-conference and all-region honors ... Was team MVP and played in the state high school all-star game during the summer of 2002 ... Lettered as a wrestler his freshman and sophomore years ...
