Football Health and Performance
Within VTSM,  Zack  operates as the Football Athletic Trainer of Health & Performance providing strategic leadership and operational oversight to ensure the efficient delivery of sports medicine, performance, and athlete health services across the football program. This role manages administrative operations, student and budget/ purchasing oversight, project coordination, and communication while supporting innovation. By aligning daily operations with Virginia Tech's long-term vision, Zack ensures organizational efficiency while optimizing resources to promote elite athlete care.

Prior to Virginia Tech: Maust graduated from Virginia Tech in 2017 with a bachelor’s degree in Human Nutrition, Foods, and Exercise. While at Virginia Tech, he spent 4 years as a Student Athletic Training Aide for the Football team.  After graduating, he attended the University of Lynchburg where he graduated, earning his Master’s Degree in Athletic Training, in 2019. Zack was a member of the Iota Tau Alpha Athletic Training Honor Society for two years. At Lynchburg, he spent time working with Softball and Men’s Lacrosse along with Liberty University Football and the High-A affiliate of the Cleveland Guardians, the Lynchburg Hillcats.

Education: Virginia Tech, 2017 (BS in Human Nutrition, Foods, and Exercise), University of Lynchburg, 2019 (MS in Athletic Training) 

Family: Maust resides with his wife Julia, daughter Molly and their dog Scout in Christiansburg, Va.

Professional: His Master’s research titled “The Effects of Soft Tissue Flossing on Hamstring Range of Motion and Lower Extremity Power'', was published in the IJSPT in June 2021. Zack has been a certified member of the National Athletic Trainers' Association since 2019.  He is a licensed Athletic Trainer by the Virginia Board of Health Professions. He also is credentialed through the American Red Cross (Professional Rescuer CPR/AED).
