His great grandfather, George C. Willson, was a co-captain on Tech's 1904 football team.

Junior College: Played two seasons for Coach Bob Miller at Cuesta Community College in San Luis Obispo, Calif. ... Worked his way into the starting lineup during his freshman season as an outfielder/DH ... Hit over .400 the second half of the season and finished with a .364 season mark ... Received all-conference honors and helped the team finish in the top 8 in California ... Team was ranked No. 3 in California JC preseason polls in 2006 ... Saw action in 41 out of 47 games as a sophomore, working at first base and DH ... Hit .334 in first 20 games with 15 RBIs and a pair of home runs ... Suffered a broken finger and was in and out of the lineup the rest of the season ... Finished with a .252 average, but was second on the team in doubles with 10.
High School: A two-year letterman as a first baseman and outfielder for Coach Mike Kelly at Carmel (Calif.) High School ...
