Hokie ClubBLACKSBURG, Va. – Virginia Tech (2-1-0) used two second-half goals to defeat Kentucky (0-2-1), 3-0, Friday night at Thompson Field.
In the first match of the series played in Blacksburg, the Hokies earned their first-ever victory over Kentucky, recorded their first shutout in the series, and scored the most goals by either team in a single meeting.
Tech opened the scoring in the 12th minute when defender Noe Uwimana found the back of the net off an assist from Alvaro Ruiz-Mateos. The goal, Uwimana's second in as many matches, gave the Hokies a 1-0 advantage.
The Hokies doubled their lead in the 74th minute when Parker Polk scored his first goal of the season, again with Ruiz-Mateos providing the assist. Senior Yanis Belatrache added an insurance goal in the 88th minute, converting a penalty kick to push the advantage to 3-0.
