LEXINGTON, Ky. — Christian Jackson posted a season best to solidify his return to the national stage, while George Couttie and Nick Plant punched their tickets to Eugene on Friday at the NCAA East First Round.

Jackson took on the 800 meters and won his heat to secure an automatic qualification to the NCAA Outdoor Championships, clocking a season-best 1:45.86. The performance sends him to nationals for the second consecutive season after finishing seventh in the event a year ago to earn First Team All-America honors with a time of 1:47.66.

During the 2026 indoor season, Jackson claimed the ACC indoor 800-meter title in a season-best 1:47.26, marking his fifth career All-ACC honor. He followed that with a silver-medal finish outdoors, leading the Hokies with 1:46.47 at the ACC Outdoor Championships.

Couttie and Plant secured the final two tickets to Eugene for the Hokies in the men's 1,500 meters.

Plant finished second in his quarterfinal with a time of 3:38.21, while Couttie followed closely in third at 3:38.33 as both advanced to the national meet.

The appearance will mark Plant's fourth NCAA Outdoor Championships appearance and provide an opportunity to earn his eighth career All-America honor. Plant enters the national meet after capturing the ACC outdoor title in the 1,500 meters with a time of 3:39.60.

Most recently, Plant earned First Team All-America honors during the indoor season as a member of the Wildcats' distance medley relay squad. Plant ran the 1,600-meter anchor leg in 3:56.38 as Virginia Tech finished third nationally with a time of 9:21.69.

For Couttie, the trip to Hayward Field will be his first NCAA Outdoor Championships appearance.

Couttie delivered one of the most decorated seasons in program history, highlighted by a runner-up finish in the mile at the NCAA Indoor Championships in 3:59.30 to earn First Team All-America honors. He also placed 11th in the 3,000 meters (8:07.18), securing Second Team All-America recognition for the second consecutive year in the event.

He ranked No. 2 nationally in the mile after breaking his own Virginia Tech record with a time of 3:52.02, the seventh-fastest performance in NCAA history. Couttie also set the program record in the 3,000 meters at 7:36.74, the ninth-fastest time ever run collegiately. Additionally, he contributed to Virginia Tech's record-setting distance medley relay squad, which ranks No. 3 all-time in NCAA history.

At the Hokie Invitational, Couttie became the first collegian this season to break five minutes in the indoor 2,000 meters, setting an NCAA record with a time of 4:57.81. He later added a personal-best 2:18.53 in the 1,000 meters at the Doc Hale Invitational, ranking No. 9 all-time in NCAA history and No. 2 in program history.

On the conference stage, Couttie earned First Team All-ACC honors with a runner-up finish in the 3,000 meters (7:46.40) at the ACC Indoor Championships.

His indoor campaign followed a strong return from injury after missing the 2025 outdoor season. Couttie also carried momentum from the fall, earning All-America honors with a 10th-place finish at the NCAA Cross Country Championships while collecting All-Region and All-ACC recognition after fourth-place finishes at the NCAA Southeast Regional and ACC Championships.

Notably, Garrett Winter and Cameron Davis delivered all-time performances for the program in the steeplechase. Winter clocked a personal-best 8:40.97 to move to fifth on Virginia Tech's all-time list, while Davis ran a personal-best 8:46.68 to rank eighth in program history.
