Brzyszkowska breaks shot put record; Elakari (2nd) and DeCambre (3rd) lead strong 800-meter performances at Hill City Twilight

BLACKSBURG, Va. — Katrin Brzyszkowska set the program record in the shot put at the Jim Green Invitational in Lexington, Kentucky, while eight other Hokies broke into the all-time top 10 at the Hill City Twilight in Lynchburg, Virginia, on Saturday.

Brzyszkowska recorded a best of 17.40 meters (57 feet, 1 inch) to cement herself as Virginia Tech’s all-time outdoor shot put record holder, taking the win at the Jim Green Invitational.

In the women’s 800 meters invite, Kenza Elakari placed second with a personal-best 2:05.89, earning a spot in Virginia Tech’s all-time top 10.

In the men’s 800 meters invite, Dylan DeCambre finished third with a personal-best 1:47.21, also securing a place in the program’s all-time top 10.

In the women’s 1,500 meters invite, Katie Bohlke won the event at the Hill City Twilight with a personal-best 4:14.40, moving up to No. 8 on Virginia Tech’s all-time list. Sophia Holgado took second and entered the list at No. 9 with a personal-best 4:15.94. Jule Lindner rounded out the podium sweep for Tech with a personal-best 4:16.52.

On the men’s side, George Couttie finished second with an outdoor-best 3:37.01, good for No. 2 on the all-time list. He was followed by Nick Plant in third with a 3:37.12. Sam Idiens posted a personal-best 3:40.33 to claim the No. 10 spot on the list.

Ryan Chevalier and Garrett Winter closed out the successful evening for Virginia Tech in the 5,000 meters invite with times of 13:46.32 and 13:47.94, respectively. Both were personal bests and earned first- and second-place finishes, ranking No. 6 and No. 7 on the all-time list. Linus Chepkochei followed in third with a 14:09.02 to complete another Hokies podium sweep.

Kylie Bonser earned second place in the 5,000-meter invite with a personal-best 17:03.94.

Duke Invitational

Kaitlyn Cook won the triple jump with a 12.80 meters (42 feet), and Reece Rizzo recorded a personal best 2.01 meters (6 feet, seven inches) in the high jump to qualify for his first ACC postseason appearance.
