Virginia Tech Shines with All-Time Marks at UVA Grand Prix

Pestana, Cook climb program all-time lists while Kelly sets meet record and Bohlke records two personal bests.

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — The Virginia Tech track and field team shined at the UVA Grand Prix Friday, posting multiple podium finishes. Katie Bohlke and Mariana Pestana set personal bests while Kaitlyn Cook moved into the program’s all-time top marks in the triple jump. Roan Kelly also set a meet record in the 3,000 meters, leading the Hokies’ strong showing in Charlottesville.

Bohlke opened her outdoor season in impressive fashion, winning the 1,500 meters with a personal-best time of 4:16.03, moving her to No. 8 on Virginia Tech’s all-time list. She later added another personal best in the 800 meters, finishing third in 2:09.14.

Jule Lindner also competed in the 1,500 meters, placing second in 4:19.19 to join Bohlke among the top finishers.

Cook continued to establish herself among the program’s elite jumpers, winning the triple jump with a personal-best mark of 13.31m (43’ 8”). The performance ranks No. 4 all-time at Virginia Tech. She now holds top-four program marks in the indoor long jump (6.04m, 19’ 9.75”, No. 3), indoor triple jump (12.91m, 42’ 4.25”, No. 4), and outdoor triple jump.

Pestana captured the women’s hammer throw title with a personal-best 66.50 (218' 2") meters, maintaining her No. 4 position on the program’s all-time list.

Katrin Brzyszkowska added another win for the Hokies in the shot put, recording a mark of 16.58 meters (54' 4.75") for her second consecutive victory this season.

Rounding out the top women’s performers, Zoey McFadyen placed second in the 200 meters in 24.33 seconds, securing her second straight podium finish in her debut season.

On the men’s side, Kelly won the 3,000 meters in 8:06.29, setting both meet and facility records. Teammate Sam Idiens followed closely in second at 8:07.58.

Calvin Meyer and Nate Paris led the Hokies in the 400 meters, finishing first (47.79) and third (48.46), respectively.

Evan Taylor earned his first event title of the year, winning the 110-meter hurdles in 14.93 seconds.

Joseph Rozynski recorded his first career podium finish, placing second in the 100 meters in 10.95 seconds.

In field events, Lukas Baroke placed second in the hammer throw with a season-best 71.10m  (233' 3"). Paris added a third place finish in the discus with a season-best 37.60m (123' 4").

Nathaniel Curtiss claimed the high jump title with a mark of 2.01 meters (6 feet, 7 inches), his first victory of the season.

At the Bobcat Invitational in San Marcos, Texas, Layne Studer closed out the day with his first podium finish as a Hokie, placing third with a season-best 5.25m (17' 2.75").

Virginia Tech’s pole vault group will conclude the weekend at the Texas Relays in Austin and the Bobcat Invitational in San Marcos, Texas.
