RALEIGH, N.C. – The Hokies fell to ranked opponents NC State and Ohio State at the Raleigh Rumble, with both squads taking third place.
Eli Martin recorded the first win of the meet for the Hokies with a first-place finish in the 200 breast, logging a 1:54.84. Brendan Whitfield took first place in the 50 free knockout (19.11), and jumped to fifth in the nation with his 19.01 in prelims. Carmen Weiler Sastre’s second-place 100 free (48.27) and third-place 50 back (24.27) rank 20th in the nation this season. Martin and Ethan Maloney competed in the 50 breast knockout, with Martin posting the eighth-best time in the nation this season (24.37) and Maloney posting the 12th best time in the nation (24.46).
Jakub Poliacik took third in the 1000 free with a 9:05.12, jumping to seventh in program history. Martin also elevated in the program ranks, rising to sixth in the record books in the 100 breast (52.93).
