CHRISTIANSBURG, Va.- The Hokies put up an impressive showing against South Carolina on senior day, the men winning 204-96 and the women falling 125-175.
Hokie Women:
Carmen Weiler Sastre, Emily Santos, Athena Meneses Kovacs and Emily Claesson started the morning off strong for the Hokies with a first-place finish in the 200 medley relay (1:38.49).
Kate Anderson had a stellar day, swimming a program fifth-fastest time in the 1000 free (9:52.36) and earning second place. In the 500 free, she took home first place with a 4:47.49.
Emily Claesson took first place in the 50 free (22.73) and 100 free (49.67), and Chiara Klein recorded a third-place finish in the 200 free (1:49.12).
Weiler Sastre continued her streak with a first-place finish in the 100 back (52.22) and 200 back (1:53.32). Meneses Kovacs took second in the 100 back (53.90) and the 100 fly (53.49).
In the 100 breast, Santos took first (1:01.61) followed by Esther Park in second (1:02.39). Santos swam a program fifth-best time in the 200 breast with a 2:12.96.
Weiler Sastre, Claesson, Anna Summers and Meneses Kovacs took first in the 400 free relay, posting a 3:17.36 swim.
On the boards, Michayla Eisenberg placed second on 3m with 296.10, and Grace Austin took third (294.60). Miah Fisher capped off her senior day with a second-place finish on 1m (271.80), followed by Austin in third (270.00).
Hokie Men:
Youssef Ramadan, Carles Coll Marti, William Hayon and Brendan Whitfield recorded a first-place finish in the 200 medley relay to kick off the day.
Lee Naber recorded a 9:10.08 1000 free, good for second place. Nico Garcia followed in third (9:13.00). Luis Dominguez took home first place in the 500 free with a 4:24.44.
It was an all-Hokie podium for the 200 free, with Dominguez claiming first place (1:33.66), Jakub Poliacik taking second (1:35.87) and Tanish George Mathew coming in third (1:38.63).
Whitfield took first place in the 50 free (19.47) and 100 free (42.54). George Mathew recorded a second-place finish in the 50 free (20.36), and Will Hayon took second place in the 100 free (43.46).
Ramadan earned first place in the 100 back (45.10) setting a new pool record. Mario Molla Yanes took second in the 100 back (46.87), before setting a new sixth-best program time in the 200 back (1:41.56). Levente Balogh placed second in the 200 back with a 1:44.86.
Coll Marti had a fantastic day, taking home three individual first-place finishes. He swam a 51.00 in the 100 breast, a 1:50.88 in the 200 breast and a 1:43.55 in the 200 IM, setting pool records in each race.
Ethan Maloney recorded a 53.19 100 breast, good for second place.
Ramadan recorded a first-place finish in the 100 fly (45.03), followed by Hayon in second (46.11). Carl Bloebaum (1:47.07) and Landon Gentry (1:47.12) placed first and second in the 200 fly.
Whitfield, Ramadan, Dominguez and Molla Yanes closed out senior day with a first-place finish in the 400 free relay (2:48.84), setting a pool record.
On the boards, Jacob Fisher posted a 344.03 on 1m, taking first place. He was followed by Nathan Cox in second with a 326.63. Rocky Ramsland earned third place on 3m with a score of 348.60.
