Hokie ClubDURHAM, N.C. – Virginia Tech swimming and diving wrapped up a dual meet at Duke on Saturday at the Taishoff Aquatic Center. The No. 10 men’s swimming and diving team defeated Duke 182.50-112.50, while the women fell to the Blue Devils 165-135.
Tech Men
The No. 10 Hokies kicked off the day with a strong win in the 400 yard medley relay. Youssef Ramadan, Carles Coll Marti, William Hayon and Brendan Whitfield took home the win with their time of 3:13.41. The squad of Gabriel Yuk, Joseph Hong, Landon Gentry and Luis Dominguez Calonge finished second (3:18.09).
Lee Naber (9:26.42) and Vedaant Madhavan (9:37.17) placed first and second, respectively, in the 1000 free. The Hokies followed that up with a sweep in the 200 free with Whitfield (1:38.68), Dominguez Calonge (1:38.95) and Jakub Poliacik (1:40.11) taking the top three spots.
In the 100 back, Mario Molla Yanes tied for first with his time of 49.07 while Yuk finished third with his time of 49.50. Coll Marti earned his first individual win of the day with his time of 53.62 in the 100 breast, while Hong’s 56.14 was good for second.
Gentry took the top spot in the 200 fly (1:49.27), which was followed by a Hokie sweep in the 50 free. Coll Marti (19.63), Ramadan (20.19), and Hayon (20.48) finished first, second and third, respectively.
The Hokies were on fire as they earned their third sweep of the day. In the 100 free, Whitfield’s 44.09 was good for first while Molla Yanes (45.58) and Poliacik (45.59) finished second and third.
Nico Garcia took second in the 200 back, recording a 1:51.28. Hong earned his first individual win of the day with his 2:01.84 in the 200 breast while Eli Martin’s 2:03.32 was good for second. Tech took two of the top three spots in the 500 free with Dominguez Calonge in first (4:34.46) and Naber in third (4:37.09).
Another sweep on the day for the men’s team came in the 100 fly with Ramandan (47.94), Hayon (48.54) and Gentry (48.87) taking the top three spots.
Coll Marti continued to dominate, taking first in the 400 IM (3:51.89) before Tech’s squad of Ramadan, Whitfield, Dominguez Calonge and Hayon closed out the day with the fastest time in the 200 free relay (1:20.50).
On the boards, Rocky Ramsland took third place on 1m with a 348.53. Jacob Fisher earned first place on 3m with a 417.75.
Tech Women
Tech’s squad of Carmen Weiler Sastre, Emily Santos, Athena Meneses Kovacs and Emily Claesson earned second in the 400 yard medley relay to start the day (3:40.20).
Kate Anderson won the first race of the day with her 10:05.99 in the 1000 free while Camille Weiss’ 10:15.29 was good for third, Emma Atkinson took home the win in the 200 free with her time of 1:49.77 and Chiara Klein’s 1:50.86 earned her a third-place finish.
Carmen Weiler Sastre continued her stellar season with her winning time of 52.55 in the 100 back. She also won the 100 free (49.30)
In the 100 breast, Nichelly Brano Lysy took second (1:03.14) while Emily Santos finished third (1:03.34). Claesson earned her second silver on the day as she took second in the 50 free with her time of 23.21. She also placed second in the 100 free (50.30).
Atkinson’s 1:56.40 was good for second in the 200 back. Lysy (2:17.81) earned another silver on the day as she finished second in the 200 breast.
Klein recorded a first-place 4:56.16 in the 500 free for her second top-three finish of the day.
Meneses Kovacs won the 100 fly with her time of 55.26 while Julia Murphy finished third with her time of 56.37.
The women closed out the meet with a 1:33.59 in the 200 free relay – good for second place.
On the boards, Michayla Eisenberg placed third on 1m (279.45) while Peyton Guziec took second on 3m (325.50).
