BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech football coach Brent Pry has announced multiple staff title changes in light of new, modernized NCAA legislation lifting restrictions on how many staff members can participate in on-field coaching.

The moves are part of an effort to continue building a modern, sustainable football program. Employing a proactive approach to adapt to the ever-changing landscape of college football, Pry re-assessed the current staff and made title adjustments to reflect the program’s operations moving forward.

“We feel fortunate to have the group of coaches we have,” Pry said. “We believe in them and acknowledge their tremendous impact on our program. We are thankful for the NCAA’s progressive stance as we attempt to navigate the constantly evolving environment of our sport.”

The updates to the Hokies’ staff roster are listed below.

Gunter Brewer - Director of High School Relations/Senior Offensive Analyst

Brian Crist – Co-Quarterbacks Coach

Brent Davis – Co-Offensive Line Coach

Austin Fields – Assistant Offensive Line Coach/Quality Control

Cam Phillips – Assistant Wide Receivers Coach/Quality Control

Xavier Adibi – Associate Linebackers Coach

Under the new model, analysts and quality control coaches are now permitted to provide technical and tactical instruction to student-athletes in practice and games. The legislation still allows 10 assistants and the head coach to recruit off-campus.

“This will help us to better support our student-athletes,” Pry continued. “Removing restrictions on instruction, allows our players to better develop their skills and improve their performance, helping them reach their full potential.”
