EUGENE, Ore. - The Virginia Tech men's track and field team opened competition on Wednesday producing the Hokies first All-American at the 2024 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
Tied for eighth, sophomore Conner McClure picked up his second All-American honors of the 2024 season clearing 17' 7.25" (5.37m) in the men's pole vault competition. McClure will return to Eugene, Ore. on June 21 - 30 to compete at the U.S. Olympic Team Trials.
Judson Lincoln IV qualified for the 400m finals, finishing third in heat three of the semifinals with a time of 45.42 he advances to the finals with the seventh fastest time of the day. Lincoln qualified for the national championships meet recording a personal-best time of 44.55 in the quarterfinals, 45.14 in the prelims.
The men's 400m finals is scheduled for Friday at 7:02 p.m. PT / 10:02 p.m. ET on ESPN 2.
Sophomore Nick Plant advances to the 800m finals recording the fourth fastest time in the semifinals at 1:46.40. Plant advanced to Eugene clocking 1:46.39 in the quarterfinals and 1:49.48 in the prelims.
The men's 800m finals is scheduled for Friday at 7:14 p.m. PT / 10:14 p.m. ET on ESPN 2.
Decathlete Sean Murphy is currently in 15th after the first five events with 3908 points. Murphy started the day on the track recording a time of 11.19 in the 100m. In the field, he recorded marks of 23' 2.75" (7.08m) in the long jump, 45' 1.5" (13.75m) in shot put, and 6' 3.5" (1.92m) in high jump. He ended day clocking in a 400m time of 50.06.
Day two of the decathlon beings at 11:30 a.m. PT / 2:30 p.m. ET on Thursday with the 110m hurdles. The men will continue on the day competing in final four events of the competition; discus, pole vault, javelin, and 1500-meters.
The men's 4x400m relay team of Kennedy Harrison, KJ Tillmon, Nick Plant, Judson Lincoln IV placed 13th in the semifinals with a time of 3:05.80.
