McClure qualifies for NCAA Outdoor Championships

LEXINGTON, Ky. - Day one of the NCAA East Preliminary Round was headlined by Virginia Tech's Conner McClure qualifying for the NCAA Outdoor Championships in the men's pole vault. 

McClure secured his spot into the NCAA Championships clearing 17' 9.25" (5.42m) on his first attempt, tied for first with Keaton Dayton of Kentucky. After an hour and a half weather delay, McClure started the day clearing 16' 7.5" (5.07m), passing 5.22m, and 17' 5.5" (5.32m) on his first attempts at each height. The event came to an end once the top 12 men were decided to advance to nationals. 

Maddox Hamm's rookie year came to end finishing 18th in pole vault at a height of 17' 5.50" (5.32m). 

Judson Lincoln IV clocked the fastest time of the day in the 400m prelims (45.14) earning an automatic spot into the quarterfinals on Friday. In lane two, Lincoln came around the curve in first place and controlled the race with ease in the final 100m. He will compete in heat two of the quarterfinals as the number one seed. 
 


Nick Plant qualified for the 800m quarterfinals on Friday finishing third in his preliminary heat with a time of 1:49.48. Plant will run in heat three of the quarterfinals at 7:05 p.m.
